While this activity may not be for everyone, it is very fun for those who can. A family bike ride gives you time to talk, exercise, and see more of the neighborhood around you. I would pick a destination, such as a park or ice cream shop.
Especially great in the summertime, this activity is a great way to exercise. The cool evenings offer a perfect setting for slow riding and talking.
If your family is up for it, you can go on longer rides as well. My family and I have gone on 15 mile rides before, but the younger children were pretty tired. We stopped often though and had lots of snacks with us.
No matter where you go or how long, make sure you take a bit of water with you. It can be strenuous exercise if you ride up hill for very long and can youngsters tire quickly. Stopping for just a minute and drinking a bit of water can renew your strength. Using a connected bike like this one pictured might be the way to go for younger riders. When they are tuckered out Mom or Dad can do all the work and you will arrive at your destination with energy to spare.
Ride safely, wear helmets and light clothing so you can be seen easily.
Have fun!
