Taking a Tour can be a valuable learning experience as well as a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Look around your city for an interesting business: a cheese factory, a farm, a mine, an airport, a train station, a fancy restaurant, and the like.

Many places will give tours even if they don't advertise that they do. Also, if you can mention, when you ask them for the tour, that it is for educational purposes they will usually be more apt to say 'Yes!'.

Remember though, that not everywhere will allow you to go, so don't be offended if they decline. Some restaurants use special recipes or techniques they don't want 'leaked' and some factories may be too dangerous for those not trained.

Whereever you pick to go though, don't be afraid to ask questions. The people who lead the tours are usually the higher-ups of the business. They can answer all of your, and your childrens', questions.
